Was born on May 3, 1940 in the village Tisa Sirma (Hungary). Has finished with First Class Honor Diploma biological faculty of the Ivan Franko Lviv State University (1965) and postgraduate courses at department of plant physiology (1968) under the direction of the professor О. Grebins`kyj. The dissertation on reception of the scientist degree of the candidate of biological sciences has defended in 1969. After the expiration of training in postgraduate courses works on plant physiology department of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. In 1988 has defended the dissertation "Growth and metabolic activity attractive centers in plants under influence of physiologically active substances" on reception of the scientist degree of the doctor of biological sciences. Since 1992 - head of Department of plant physiology and ecology.

She is the author more than 200 scientific publications.

Has prepared 5 candidates of biological sciences.

Academician of Academy of sciences of a higher School of Ukraine since 1996.

Today on department 7 teacher’s work: 2 doctors, 5 Ph.D.

The department of plant physiology at the Lviv university was created in 1907, it headed the professor Severyn Кshyminevs`kyj. The new stage in a history of department at the beginnings in 1945 also is connected with a name of the professor S. Grebins`kyj, founder of a perspective direction of scientific researches - physiology of growth and development of plants, which today occupies the important place in the work of department. In 1974 faculty has headed the senior lecturer L. Lukova and the subjects of scientific researches was added by study of influence of vitamins and microelements on squirrels - synthesize system of plants.

In 1981 by the decision of the Scientist Council of university department of plant physiology have united with department of plant morphology and systematics, which has resulted in liquidation of specialization from plant physiology.

Since September 1, 1992 under the order of the rector of university № 516 from May 13, 1992 restored independent department of plant physiology under the direction of the professor О.Теrek.

In 1995 the branch of department is created on the basis of a department ecomorphogenesis of Institute of ecology of Carpathians National Аcademy of Sciences of Ukraine.

By the coworkers of department of plant physiology more than 10 years are developed scientific subjects in physiological ecology. The influence of the local polluting factors of an antropogeneous origin, in particular the Socal factory of chemical fibres, the Ivano-Frankivs`k factory of thin organic synthesis, the Mykolajiv cement factory and the Drogobych factory on processing petroleum is studied. With the purpose of revealing stress markers at pollution and diagnostics of primary stages of pollution the heavy metals investigate influence of heavy metals on physiologicaly-biochemical processes at plants. In the given time the employees and students of faculty study influence of potassium- and phosphorus - containing ores of the Ukrainian deposits (glaukonits and phosphorits) on growth of plants with the purpose of use them as ecologically of pure fertilizers and neutralization of negative action of heavy metals. As the contents of educational disciplines of department and direction of scientific researches is closely connected to ecological aspects, by the decision of Scientific Council of university in May, 2000 the department of plant physiology is renamed on department of physiology and ecology of plants.

The department of plant physiology and ecology lets out the experts in a speciality "biology" (extramural department), and " physiology of plants " within the framework of a speciality "physiology" 7.07.0408. Opening one more specialization - " ecology of plants " is planned.

Quantity of the students on the day time and extramural forms of training on the average 10 persons on each rate.

On faculty is postgraduate courses (speciality 03.00.12 - "plant physiology”), day time and correspondence form of training.

The experts with specified specialities prepare for work in the field of education, science and on biotechnological manufactures. The graduates of department work in research institutes, agrochemical laboratories, botanical gardens, seed stations, high schools.

For maintenance of educational process both scientific work of the students and teachers are used as constant bases a department of physiology and biochemistry of plants of a Botanical garden of university, department of growth of Institute of physiology of plants and genetics НАН of Ukraine (Kiev) departments of phytohormonology and cell biology of N.G. Kholodny Institute of botany National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kiev). The department of plant physiology and ecology supports contacts to such organizations as Federation of the European societies of plant physiologists, foreign scientific and educational institutions (University of Wroclaw, Poland; Plant Science Institute university of Pennsilvania, USA).

On the basis of faculty the Lviv branch of Ukranian Society of plant physiology works which unites plant physiologists from various high schools and research establishments of Western Ukraine.

On faculty is carried out a governmental theme of Ministry of education and science of Ukraine:

"Remediation of soils of Javoriv national park and military poligon with the help of untraditional local fertilizers and plants - accumulators of pollutants" (scientific chief - professor О.Теrek)

One from directions of scientific work of department, namely study of laws of growth and development of plants was incorporated still professor S.Grebins`ky in the 50-th years. The scientific school on the given problem was generated. The new approach to study of mechanisms of regulation of plant growth with the help of physiologically active substances on nitric metabolism is developed. Is shown, that complication of organization of plant organism result in change of sensitivity to exogenous regulators, which is connected to change of donor-acceptor connections. Is shown changes of endogenous hormonal status, metabolic activity of the attractive centres during onthogenesis and under influence of exogenous phytohormones. The new concept of presence at plants hormonal areas with the certain gradient of endogenous phytohormones is created.

The carried out search of stress markers and test - system under action of industrial emissions of a vehicle for screening of plants, proof to their influence. Founded preparations having protective activity. Are tested new to Ukraine ecologically clean local phosphoric and potassium mineral ores as mineral fertilizers for neutralization of negative influence for plants of heavy metals; the study of contents macro- and microelements in phosphorits and glauconits of deposits average Prydnistrov`ja is made, is determined in them qualitative and quantitative structure of radionuclides.

The department of plant physiology and ecology was the organizer of the International conference "Plant Onthogenesis in Natural and Transformed environment", which successfully was held on July 1-4, 1998 at participation of the conducting experts – plant physiologists of Ukraine and near foreign countries.

The realization of the International conference "Ukraine-West. An ecological condition of Western region of Ukraine both adjacent territories and measure of its improvement", September, 2001 is planned., recreation zone Shats`k of the Volynsk area. Responsible - department of plant physiology and ecology and Lviv branch of a Green party of Ukraine.
