Born in 1979, Lviv (Ukraine). Graduated from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (IFNUL) in 2001 (specialty - genetics). My undergraduate research has been focused on genetics of brain neurodegeneration in Drosophila melanogaster. Since 2001 and till 2003 I worked at the Research Institute of Hereditary Pathology (Lviv). In fall 2003 I entered PhD course at the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology of IFNUL and worked towards my PhD under supervision of Prof. Victor Fedorenko. My PhD work was focused on study of gene control and regulation of export of landomycins, natural angucycline products which possess antitumor activity. I used gene overexpression and knockout, protein purification and in vitro enzyme assays to elucidate the genetic regulation of landomycins export and some steps of its biosynthesis in Streptomyces globisporus 1912 and S. cyanogenus S136. During PhD studies I had two years of international training at the laboratory of Prof. Suzanne Walker (Harvard medical School, USA). The PhD thesis has been defensed in 2008. I took teaching position at the same Department in 2008. Now I am Assistant Professor (Docent) and teach courses in methodology of genetics and biotechnological processes and producers.
My PhD research was focused on genetics of microbial (particularly actinobacterial) secondary metabolism. As a practical result of my investigations, I carried out the construction of reporter system based on gene regulation system of landomycin A export and glycosylation. The system can be used for screening of other chemical compounds with structure similar to landomycin A. Currently I am interested in studying the influence of ribosomal protein S12 on secondary metabolism in Streptomycetes, global regulation of secondary metabolism of S. cyanogenus S136 and genetics of actinomycetes capable of mineralizing antibiotics.
