Funds of Collections

Funds of collections of the Botanic Garden make 3353 taxons, consisting of :
- 787 species of trees and shrubs;
- 580 species of natural herbaceous plants;
- 698 species and sorts of cultural herbaceous plants;
- 1288 species of tropical and subtropical plants.

Spontaneous flora of the Botanical Garden include 489 species. Unique collections of Cycas, palms, Anthurium, succulent plants and another tropical and subtropical plants, Rhododendrons (the second of the size collection in Ukraine), coniferous trees, the botanical systems, rare decorative perennial plants, are presented in the Garden. There are also rare and vanished plant species, 52 species of the Red Book of Ukraine (including 12 endemic and relicts).

Department patronizes two dendroparks (in the Cyryll and Methodey str. and in the Cheremshyna str.), where is concerned the main part of collection funds. Basides it they worked on the development of specialized dendrologycal collections :
- collection of Rhododendrons (86 taxons) - curator is Dr. Halyna Vasylivna Tymchyshyn

- collection of ornamental blooming shrubs (197 taxons) - curator is Oxana Bohdanivna Shcherba
- collection of Coniferous (137 taxons) - curator is Maryna Olexandrivna Shcherbyna
- collection of climb plants (72 taxons) - curator is Talida Mykhailivna Mytzko
- collection of Magnoliaceae (11 taxons) - curator is Irina Volodymyrivna Semenyuk.
Collections of Dendrology department consist of 749 taxons of 57 families, 167 of them are aborigen species and 582 - are introduced. It `s planned to create an arboretum.

Collection building funds of department of cultural flora and green planting were founded in after - war years. Then the botanist Kupava Ostapivna Ulychna initiated the collecting of perennial and annual ornamental plants. Collections of leading monoculture plants take their begin since 60-70 years of the last century.
Nowadays in funds of department are preserved collections of flower - ornamental plants - 700 taxons. Principle of their

distribution corresponds to main living forms of grassy plants: bulb, tuber bulb, root perennial, biennial, annual plants as well as rosaries. In the expositions are placed plants leading in ornamental gardening. In the exposition are placed leading in ornamental gardening plants: Tulips (115 sorts), Hyacinth (28 sorts), Georgina`s (121 sorts), Iris (80 sorts), Chrysanthemum (59 sorts).
In collections of little dispersed perennial and annual (280 species, 80 sorts), are 56 families, 175 genera. There are presented ornamental European species - 90, Far-East and Japan - 49, Middle and Small Asia - 50, Northern America - 31, Caucasus - 27; Mediterraneaum - 24; Carpathian - 20. Considerable part of annual plants come from the Central and Southern America and Africa.

First collections of tropical and subtropical plants were founded in 50th yeas of XIX century. Old hot-houses function still (on the Cyryll & Methody str.), there are single collections of department, especially -Araceae, Bromeliacae, Dracena, Orchidaceae and Palms. In 70th years of XX century was built the green-house-complex of total area of 1250 sq. m in the Cheremshyna str., where are placed the main expositions of department.
Main collections are situated on botanical-geographic and systematic principles.
Collections funds of department make up 1288 species and varieties, forms and sorts, belonging to 434 genera and 122 families.

Spore plants are presented by 28 taxons, belonging to sections: Psilophyta - 1, Lycopodiophyta - 3 and Polypodiophyta - 25, 20 taxons belonging to 6 families and 10 genera are presented of Gymnospermae. The rest -1264 taxons are Angiospermae.
Most numeral of the Gymnospermae is collection of Cycadaceae - 10 taxons. The oldest individuals of Gymnospermae of collections are: Agathis brownei (about 100 years), Ceratozamia mexicana and C.mexicana var.longifolia (about 70 years), Cycas circinalis (about 85 years) and Encephalartos horridus (about 100 years).
About 600 taxons of succulents are of Angiospermeae. In this group most widely are presented families Agavaceae - 41 taxons (35 of them belong to gen Agavae); Aizoaceae - 3; Asphodelaceae - 99 taxons, 34 taxons - Aloe, 40 Gasteria, 22- Haworthia); Cactaceae - 180 ; Crassulaceae - 160, (22 -Aeonium, 31 - Crassula, 18 - Echeveria, 36 - Kalanchoe, 26 taxons of Sedum) and Euphorbiaceae 25 taxons. Under other most numeral families and generas are: Araceae - 67 (17 taxons of Anthurium; 15 taxons Moraceae (27 taxons Ficus). Orchidaceae - 33 taxons; of Palmae - 32 taxons ;of Piperaceae - 37 taxons. Under Palmae is a sample of 125 year old Phoenix canariensis.
